How Much Does Home Care Cost in DuPage, Kane & Kendall Counties? A 2026 Guide
Updated: 5 days ago
Most home care agencies make you call to learn their rates. We publish ours, because families planning care deserve straight answers. Here is what in-home senior care actually costs in Chicago's western suburbs in 2026, and every way to pay for it.
Bruma Home Care's rates
Companion care and homemaking starts at $30 per hour. Personal care and help with activities of daily living is $32 per hour. Respite care for family caregivers is $33 per hour. Dementia and Alzheimer's care is $31 per hour. Our hospital-to-home recovery care specialty is $34 per hour. Overnight care (8-12 hours with a dedicated caregiver) is $250 per shift, and 24-hour live-in support is $550 per day. Most services carry a 4-hour minimum, and every plan is tailored - hours and pricing are customized to your family's needs.
How that compares locally
Industry surveys place the average private-pay home care rate in DuPage County at roughly $30 to $36 per hour, with overnight and weekend rates often higher. Full-time care (about 44 hours per week) averages roughly $6,100 per month in our area, while part-time care of about 20 hours per week runs near $2,900 per month. In other words: quality home care in the western suburbs costs about what a good assisted living community charges - but your loved one stays in their own home.
Five ways families pay for home care
Private pay is the most common. Long-term care insurance is the most underused - if your loved one has a policy from Genworth, John Hancock, Mutual of Omaha, MassMutual, or Lincoln Financial, home care is usually covered, and Bruma bills the carrier directly so you are not stuck doing paperwork. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance pension benefit, which adds monthly income specifically usable for in-home care. Illinois seniors with limited assets may qualify for the state's Community Care Program. And note: Original Medicare does not pay for non-medical home care, though some Medicare Advantage plans now include limited in-home support hours - check your plan.
What affects your actual cost
Three things drive the real number: hours per week (a few mornings of companion care is a very different budget than 24-hour support), level of care (dementia care requires specially trained caregivers), and schedule (holidays bill at 1.5x standard rates, as at most agencies). The only way to know your family's true number is an assessment - which is why ours is free, in your home, with no obligation.
